			<title>20th Anniversary Celebrations</title>
			<link>http://www.prospectburma.org/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=187&amp;Itemid=2</link>
			<description>

Over 200 of our supporters and students turned out to join in our celebration in London on June 17th and to toast Aung San Suu Kyi&amp;#39;s 64th birthday which fell two days later.

I wish you could all have been there to hear the speeches.

Zoya Phan, a former student, talked about how her village was set on fire by the military and she and her family fled for their lives through the jungle to reach a refugee camp. Zoya is the recipient of two Prospect Burma scholarships, and on behalf of all 1,400 Prospect Burma students she spoke of the incredible impact education has had on their lives.

Our Guest of Honour for the evening was Prospect Burma partner, Joanna Lumley, who spoke from her heart about her admiration for Aung San Suu Kyi and the need to support education. Viscount Slim, our Patron, relayed a message from HRH The Prince of Wales; Trustee, Lindy Ambrose, read out a message of support from former First Lady, Laura Bush; and Aung San Suu Kyi&amp;rsquo;s brother-in-law, Anthony Aris, asked for 64 seconds of silence before inviting everyone to raise a toast to both Prospect Burma and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Bloomsbury Auctions kindly let us use their premises, so we took advantage of oulocation and held both live and silent auctions. Together with the raffle, entrance tickets, donations and ten pound-on-the-night draw &amp;ndash; we have raised over &amp;pound;28,000! Thank you so much to everyone who contributed, and also to Tina Blick for her wonderful canap&amp;eacute;s, and to the band, Innuendo, from St Paul&amp;rsquo;s School.

<title>AUNG SAN SUU KYI LLAMA A LA SOLIDARIDAD</title>
			<link>http://www.prospectburma.org/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=181&amp;Itemid=85</link>

PROSPECT BURMA MANTIENE VIVA LA LLAMA DE LA EDUCACI&amp;Oacute;N

C&amp;Oacute;MO AYUDAR A LA ORGANIZACI&amp;Oacute;N

<title>AUNG SAN SUU KYI FA UNA CRIDA A LA SOLIDARITAT</title>
			<link>http://www.prospectburma.org/index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=182&amp;Itemid=86</link>

PROSPECT BURMA MANT&amp;Eacute; VIVA LA FLAMA DE L&amp;#39;EDUCACI&amp;Oacute;

Aung San Suu Kyi

COOPEREU EN L&amp;#39;OBRA QUE ELLA AVALA.

 PROSPECT BURMA

COM ES POT AJUDAR L&amp;#39;ORGANITZACI&amp;Oacute;

CRITERIA CONDITIONS

We announce a competition each January for awards for the forthcoming academic year. Awards are for one year only, and students must apply again for subsequent years

We help students who have a good academic record, who can demonstrate financial need, and who intend to return to Burma eventually to help the democratic rebuilding of the country.

Our awards are intended as a contribution to tuition fees, academic course materials and living expenses including accommodation and food. We do not contribute to international travel or debts. We do not make a contribution to the costs of dependants (spouses, partners, children).

We will require successful applicants to sign a grant letter and to observe the conditions of the award. If a student fails to observe the conditions, they will be liable to repay the money and will not be eligible for future awards.

WARNINGS

We do not acknowledge receipt of applications, nor do we send rejection notices.

Decisions on awards are made by Prospect Burma&amp;rsquo;s Scholarship Committee and are final.

Anyone submitting false documents, making untrue statements or failing to disclose all relevant information will NOT receive a grant this year or in the future.

APPLICATION FORMS FOR 2010-11

There are two different applications forms. Please make sure you complete the correct one and follow the instructions in the notes attached to the form

&amp;bull; Application for Continued Funding. This form should be completed by returning applicants, who received a Prospect Burma scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year and who are continuing in the same degree programme.

&amp;bull; Application for New Applicants. This form should be completed by all other applicants.

Prospect Burma will not make grant payments without proof of a student&amp;rsquo;s enrolment for a specific course. But do not delay submission of your application: if you do not have a confirmed university place offer before 31 March you can provide evidence of your place offer later.

Applicants who received a grant in our 2009 round and who wish to apply again MUST attach their study reports on their experiences during 2009, otherwise the application is likely to be rejected. There is no need to wait for grades: you should send them to us as soon as they become available.

Message to all students
You can now meet fellow Prospect Burma grantees in our new Facebook group, available to all students and alumni. If you would like to join please read the instructions in the Student News section.

PROSPECT BURMA gives young Burmese people access to education &amp;ndash; one of the United Nation&amp;rsquo;s fundamental human rights. Since 1988 Burmese universities have been repeatedly closed and education remains in crisis. A whole generation has been deprived of education and the effect on Burma&amp;rsquo;s future is incalculable.

Since our foundation in 1989 we have funded scholarships for over 1,500 Burmese students, enabling them to qualify as professionals and to go on to work for Burma both inside and outside the country.

We also fund free English language tuition for desperately poor Burmese refugees in Delhi, a teacher training programme for Burmese in Thailand who in turn train other teachers in Burma, and English language courses inside Burma.

As the message below attests, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi endorses the work we do and she generously donates part of the income from her Nobel Peace Prize and other prizes towards our work.

If you would like to apply for one of our scholarships or make a donation, click Scholarships or How to Help.

DAW AUNG SAN SUU KYI APPEALS
FOR PROSPECT BURMA

The future of my country lies in the hands of the younger generation. Under the present military government the whole educational system is neglected and higher education is virtually non-existent with the frequent closure and repressive control of the universities. Prospect Burma is a non-political charity which does its best to fill the gap. It funds scholarships for young Burmese, most of whom have been forced to look for their education abroad. It arranges training and educational courses in Thailand and elsewhere. I warmly commend its work to you, and hope that you might be able to offer it financial help.
