Prospect Burma was delighted to be involved with the Burmese community in organising "An encounter with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the People of Burma in the United Kingdom" on June 22nd at the Royal Festival Hall. Prospect Burma's Chairman, Robert Gordon, had the honour of welcoming Aung San Suu Kyi, and following a brief meeting with Prospect Burma's Trustees, she addressed her people in Burmese and then took on a question and answer session before watching a cultural performance of song and dance.

Zali Win, Director of our US support group, American Friends of Prospect Burma, was a welcome visitor at our basement office in London recently. Zali has been instrumental in reigniting American Friends of PB which was originally set up by the late Jack Ringer, whose son, Jacob is also a director. We now have a preliminary US website http://www.prospectburma.us/ through which credit cards can be used to make donations. We are looking for help with fundraising in the US and if you think you can help us please contact Zali through the US website, or email me:

Having trained over 300 community health workers at the Health and Hope centre in Mizoram last year (all of whom are now back working in remote villages in Chin state), PB alumnus, Dr Sasa, is building a new centre in Lailenpi, inside Chin State, due to open in April to train a further 400 community health workers. Our thoughts are with him and the community health workers whose skills are now aiding the lives of over 130,000 Burmese people in 147 villages, who previously had no access to medical care. Through the generosity of our supporters, Dr Sasa received a scholarship from Prospect Burma for seven years, and graduated as a doctor in 2009. All Prospect Burma's scholarship students commit to return to Burma with their new found skills when possible. |
